Future Supporters

Although the main campaign has finished, our committee fell short of the fundraising goal. The aim was to raise enough finances to establish a fund for:

  • continued annual gravesite maintenance
  • possible site enhancements
  • permanent protection through a Municipal Heritage Designation

If you'd like to support these efforts or want to learn more about the project, we're happy to discuss the details with anyone interested!

The Project Team is also extremely grateful for the generous contribution and valuable assistance of The Province of Manitoba Heritage Grants Program.

All who took part in this Memorial Project helped to preserve an exciting part of Manitoba's Icelandic history!

The project raised funds to provide Friðrika Björnsdóttir with a simple, yet elegant memorial.

These funds enabled:

  1. the completion of a memorial marker, historical plaque, and proper fencing of the site;
  2. the documentation of the project, shared with historical societies;
  3. the preservation and recognition of Friðrika's story through additional heritage awareness.
* The Project did not raise sufficient funds for the creation of a maintenance fund to preserve the restoration efforts, as was initially planned.
